MISSION STATEMENT: The primary mission of People for Animals is to reduce animal over-population by providing low-cost spay/neuter and related services to the general public, especially lower and middle income groups. In addition, PFA may from time-to-time operate dog and cat rescue services, and undertake efforts to educate the public with respect to spay/neuter and animal care.

Founded in 1980, People for Animals, Inc. is an independent nonprofit animal welfare organization not affiliated with any other Humane Society or any national or local animal welfare groups. They were chosen by the State of New Jersey to participate in a pilot program to reduce animal overpopulation, and in 1985, opened the first Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic of its kind in this State.

People for Animals relies entirely upon private donations, grants, bequests and fundraising events to care for more than 12,000 animals the organization provides services for each year. The following programs are run by People for Animals:
Pet Rescue and Adoption Program
This Program, staffed by volunteers, provides medical care, food and shelter to rescued, stray and abandoned animals until permanent, loving homes can be found.
Adoption Days
Are held every other week at the Bridgewater PetsMart and at a variety of other locations and events throughout the year.
Although PFA’s Waggin’ Wagon generally is used to transport dogs to adoption events it has been used to transport animals from the Katrina disaster area, and currently in-state hoarder and emergency situations.
Low Cost Wellness Services
This clinic provides affordable basic preventative care for companion pets. Every Wednesday between 4-5:30 pm we offer low-cost core vaccines, heartworm, lyme, Feline Leukemia and FIV testing. Fecal analysis and deworming.
Humane Education
Presentations are given by speakers at local libraries, schools and events. Including CPR & First Aid classes and through the distribution of literature which promotes responsible pet ownership, including kindness to animals and the importance of spaying and neutering.
For more than 5 years PFA has worked with local area Girl Scout troops and specialized schools for mentally challenged children and adults.
Foster Homes
Our program for animals that need to be medically treated and healthy animals that are too young before going to adoption.
Low Cost Spay Neuter Clinic
Over 11,000 spay and neuter surgeries are performed in the clinic yearly, thus preventing the birth of thousands of unwanted dogs and cats.
The Neuter Scooter
Free transport to and from the Spay Neuter Clinic for those who are not able or have no means of transport. Pick up is at local shelters and other co-ordinated various sites.
Newsletter
Distributed throughout the year informing readers of PFA fundraisers, activities, animals awaiting adoption and other animal related issues.
Fundraisers
There are several fundraisers held throughout the year that appeal to a wide range of interests. The funds raised will go to the Pet Rescue and Adoption Program.
