Types of gifts
Wills or Living Trust Bequests
You may make a bequest to PFA by preparing a new will or adding a codicil to your present will. Through your will, you can ensure some or all of your assets will come to People for Animals. You may arrange for People for Animals to receive:
- a specific dollar amount
- specified assets, such as securities, real estate, or tangible personal property
- all or a percentage of the remainder of your estate after all other obligations are met (a residuary bequest).
The most useful bequest is an unrestricted bequest for the general purposes of PFA. This permits PFA to use your gift wherever it is most needed at the time.
Suggested language for making an unrestricted bequest: “I give, devise and bequeath
[the sum of ____ dollars], [all or ____ percent of the rest, remainder and residue of my estate of every kind and description (including lapsed legacies and devises)] to People for Animals, Inc., 401 Hillside Ave, Hillside, New Jersey, for its general corporate purposes.”
Suggested language for a specific purpose: “I give, devise and bequeath [the sum of ____ dollars], [all or ____ percent of the rest, remainder and residue of my estate of every kind and description (including lapsed legacies and devises)] to People for Animals, Inc., 401 Hillside Ave, Hillside, New Jersey, to create an endowment fund which is to be used for the following purpose: [state the purpose].”
Important Note: If you do specify a use for your bequest, the following language will ensure that your gift will always remain productive: “If at any time in the judgment of the Trustees of People for Animals the designated use of this bequest is no longer practicable or appropriate, then the Trustees shall use the bequest to further the general purposes of People for Animals, Inc., giving consideration, where possible, to my special interest as described above.”
Gifts of Retirement Plans
To give a gift of a retirement plan (IRA, 401(k), 403(b), Keogh or other qualified retirement plan) simply name People for Animals as a beneficiary on your plan’s beneficiary designation form.
Gifts Through Life Insurance
By making a gift through life insurance, you may be able to make a larger gift than you thought possible, while retaining other assets for your needs or those of your family. There are three ways to do this:
- Name People for Animals as the beneficiary of your policy
- Donate your policy to People for Animals
- Use your policy proceeds to fund a life income gift
Thank you again for considering a planned gift to People for Animals; we are truly honored. Should you find that you and your attorney need additional information regarding our organization during planning, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
